Last week I was able to transform a shirt I had been saving into the skirt I envisioned back when I sorted through clothing for our garage sale.
I don't know that it's the most technically correct sewing job, but it sure turned out cute! :-) Abigail is in a skirt-loving phase right now (yay! so fun!), so it was good motivation for me to sit down and figure it out.
I simply cut the bottom off of the shirt, leaving a few inches above the band. I measured an elastic piece to Abigail's waist and pinned it in just 4 spots (dividing in half as I added each pin) and sewed a zig-zag stitch around while the elastic was stretched to the length of the knit fabric. Then when I was done, the fabric evenly puckered around the waist. I think I might add a jersey flower or a coordinating ribbon around the waist. We'll see...
I'll try to get a picture of her in it when she wears it...but for now, this will have to suffice.
