Celebrating Marriage

Back in December, my Grandparents celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. We had a grand party for them between Christmas and the New Year. It was fun to honor their commitment to each other. Many extended relatives and friends of theirs from years gone by attended. It was so much fun to see all the pictures that my Aunt K printed out from their wedding. They were and are a pretty good looking couple! :-)

When Nathaniel and I were newly married, we rented my Grandparent's basement for a few months until our school semester was over and we had more time to look for a place and move (pretty posh arrangement...walk out basement on the lake)! That's just one example of their generosity and hospitality...two hallmarks of the home they created together.

My grandparents have always been good examples of what it is to have a healthy marriage and for that I am quite grateful. They encourage one another, they have fun with one another, they serve one another, they pursue Christ together. It is so fun to watch them interact and know that they love being with each other.

Last Christmas, they planned an activity for their married children and grandchildren. We all sang to our love! They sang first to help us to know the tune and then we all sang the second round...men sang the first verse and the women sang the second...this song:

I love you truly, truly dear,
Life with its sorrow, life with its tears
Fades into dreams when I feel you are near
For I love you truly, truly dear.

Ah! Love, 'tis something to feel your kind hand
Ah! Yes, 'tis something by your side to stand;
Gone is the sorrow, gone doubt and fear,
For you love me truly, truly dear.

I'm excited to follow in their footsteps with Nathaniel for many, many years to come...hopefully 60 or more! :-) I pray that God keeps us.

Happy anniversary, Grandpa and Grandma!
