Fall Into Reading 2008

Happy Fall! Fall is my favorite season. I love the smell and crispness of the air, the changing leaves, apples and apple pie, finding what I hid in my coat pockets last spring, and getting into my cold weather hobbies.

I always feel like pulling out my knitting, books, and warm beverages to view the out of doors as it prepares for winter while I am cozy underneath a warm blanket. A picture a little too romantic for my life full practical responsibilities...which is why I'm very excited for Fall Into Reading 2008--a challenge that I found on Callapidder Days, one of the newest blogs that I've started to follow. I hope the challenge will motivate me to take captive those "spare" moments throughout my fall to accomplish something I love to do--read!

So here is the over-zealous, way-too-excited-for-reading book list. The titles with a star are from my original 2008 New Year's Resolution Reading List that I have yet to complete.

1. The Pilgrim's Progress *~ John Bunyan: I started this book in mid July and have had trouble completing it due to end of summer busyness.

2. The Constitution of the United States AND The Declaration of Independence & The Gettysburg Address: I won this booklet in 10th grade civics because I was able to list the most individuals running for any public office for the 2000 elections. I'm so out of touch with politics these days I thought it would be a great Presidential Election year read.

3. The Heart of Darkness* ~ Joseph Conrad: My husband bought this book on our very first date. I decided that evening that one day, I would read this book...its only taken me 4 plus years!!

4. The New Dare to Discipline ~ Dr. James Dobson: A recommended read for parents with children of any age.

5. War of Words* ~ Paul David Tripp: A book about communication struggles. I expect that I will be aided in my communication abilities in areas I don't yet know I have trouble with. Hopefully it doesn't open a can of worms!!

6. The Call of the Wild ~ Jack London: I purchased this book during a vacation to Branson, MO during high school and have always wanted to read it. Its a classic and should be a quick enjoyable read. Perhaps I'll see the movie when I'm done with it.

7. Darwin's Black Box* ~ Michael J. Behe: I wanted something that would challenge my 3-years-out-of-college brain in the topic of my college major--biology.

8. The Goose Girl ~ Shannon Hale: I saw this book at my parents-in-law's house and wanted to borrow it because the picture on the front is so delightful. I have no idea what it is about, but I assume it will have something to do with a young female and a feathered friend.

9. The Pursuit of God* ~ A.W. Tozer: I desire that my primary thirst in life would be knowing God and serving him. I hope this book will prove helpful toward that end. (not pictured)

Hi and welcome to the Fall Challenge! In answer to your question - what is a TBR list? TBR stands for To-Be-Read - usually a list of what one wants to read but hasn't actually read yet.

Looks like a great list -- I love how you're including good "thinking" books. The Pursuit of God is very good, but I had to read it pretty slowly so I could digest everything.

Oh, also -- I like finding things in coat pockets too, especially if it's a $5 bill. It's like a free coffee at Starbucks. :)

You've got some really good selections there. I can totally relate to the cover thing. I sometimes pick books based on the covers alone.
